What We DoIDSS works with communities, organisations and governments to build local capacity, to advocate for access to resources and for the delivery of basic services.
Our work is not only about services such as the provision of clean water or immunising a child. We also focus on building knowledge, skills and relationships so that communities, civil society and governments can provide their own services and manage them for the future. We have a breadth of experience across the globe, and we currently specialise in the Asia Pacific region. We have delivered over 200 projects in approximately 50 countries across: democratic governance; civil society strengthening; water and sanitation; HIV/AIDS; education and training; natural resource management; sustainable livelihoods; maternal and child health; urban and rural development and; post disaster reconstruction. IDSS provides services in: Program/Project ManagementWe have experience in the design, development and management of projects and programs – including technical assistance; facility management; project based aid; and integrated programs.
Professional TrainingSince 1998 IDSS’ Professional Development Program (PDP) has developed and delivered training courses for development practitioners from over 100 different organisations. Courses have included participants from across virtually every section of Australia society such as, multilateral agencies and development banks, government departments, private and public sector companies, church bodies, non-government organisations (NGO) and education institutions. We are also to develop customized curricula and courses for clients according to their unique and specific business needs.
Consultancy ServicesIDSS provides consulting services in project design, implementation and evaluation to multilateral and donor agencies, including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and AusAID, as well as NGOs and the private sector. IDSS has ongoing contracts with AusAID for services in governance; monitoring and evaluation; and peace, conflict and development. IDSS can provide other consultancy services in economic analysis and advice; education; environment and natural resource management; gender and community development; health; NGO accreditation; organisational development; rural development; and water supply and sanitation.
Resource MaterialsWe draw from our extensive programming experience to produce and distribute tools and resources to support development practitioners, with a strong emphasis on the development of participatory techniques and approaches.
