Experienced Practitioners ProgramContinuous learning and knowledge management is vital for development practitioners to broaden their skills, update their knowledge and understand changes in development thinking and practice. Our approach aims to create an environment for dialogue and learning amongst experienced practitioners to discuss the issues, challenges and innovations in their development practices.
Most of our courses run over two days. Delivery is a mixture of short lectures, group discussion, case studies, role plays, use of participant experiences and other exercises. Participants are encouraged to draw upon their own situations and examples to extend the areas of discussion and application.
Students who complete our courses with assessment may be eligible to be considered for Advanced Standing or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) with their respective universities. Currently students from RMIT University are eligible to claim credits towards their degree by attending IDSS courses and completing the assignment.
While the majority of IDSS courses are designed and delivered in a way that suits the general needs of both experienced and emerging practitioners, there are introductory courses which are specially targeted for practitioners who want to acquire new skills and also for emerging practitioners, whereas the advanced level courses will require participants either to first attend the relevant introductory course or possess experience in the relevant area.
