Participants without experience may attend this course provided they have attended the introductory M&E course.Course Description:International development practitioners are increasingly being asked to demonstrate the quality, results and impact of their work by donors, partner agencies and the general public. Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plays an essential role in answering these questions.This course aims to explore the different types of monitoring and evaluation approaches currently being utilised by international development practitioners to guide their activities and to demonstrate the short and longer term effectiveness of their work. In addition to grappling with various M&E models this course also investigates the development of practical M&E systems and specific tools that can be utilised within this framework. Learning Approach:This course is practice based and each participant is asked to bring one or two written M&E frameworks/systems that they are familiar with to the course (documents will be provided for those that do not have access to their own material). Participants will continually apply the theoretical concepts and learning of the course to these practice documents. Over the two day course participants will critique and amend these M&E documents for further discussion and input back in their workplace and in the program.Learning Outcomes:
Facilitator’s profile:Jan Cossar runs her own consultancy practice specialising in planning, monitoring and evaluation (PME). She has extensive experience in the sector working with numerous Australian NGOs as well as with both AusAID and contracting companies in PNG, Solomon Islands, South Africa and South-East Asia. As a PME specialist, she possesses substantial experience in the design of programs and the development of M&E systems. She has evaluated numerous development projects as well as worked with project teams to identify the most effective tools to utilise in the development of M&E frameworks.Jan is also a skilled facilitator and trainer. She is well versed in developing and delivering training courses in design, monitoring and evaluation, community development and project management for government agencies, independent contractors and NGOs.
