Best Practice Project Design and an Introduction to Log Frames Approach (LFA)

Facilitator: Phillip Walker
Dates: TBA. Please register your interest with IDSS.

Who is it for?

The course is designed for emerging development practitioners, and volunteers, working in the international aid and development sector. Both professionals who are seeking an entry in to the aid industry and students of International and/or Community Development who are seeking to strengthen their understanding of the practicalities of aid delivery will find this course useful.

Course Description

The process by which any project is designed and delivered is the cornerstone to success and post-project sustainability. As a primary management tool the Project Design Document (PDD) provides the detailed explanation of the methodology, requirements, risks, structure and envisaged outcome of the development activity. The PDD can be used to leverage funding, monitor implementation and provide accountability provisions.

This two day introductory course provides an overview of the planning processes for quality project design.  Placing the project in the context of contemporary international theories and frameworks, the course covers stakeholder involvement, strategies and tools for beneficiary participation and information collection, project identification, contents of a design document, log frames, and sustainability.

The course is premised on the principle of community driven development with project beneficiaries involved in the conceptualisation, design and delivery of projects. The course will be delivered through a combination of presentations and handouts, practical examples and case studies, with participants sharing their experiences, small group discussions and team activities.
