Building Project Effectiveness Through Community Engagement

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for those needing to understand the methodologies and practices of enhancing the effectiveness of a project.  The focus is on enhancing the effectiveness through understanding community perceptions, circumstances and most appropriate engagement methods.
 

Course Description: 

This course is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of community engagement and its role in supporting the effectiveness of a project or program.  The Rapid Assessment of Perceptions (RAP) methodology and tools will be discussed along with the practical skills required in running a RAP to enhance community engagement.  It is designed to support aid and development workers to develop facilitation skills, deal with facilitation issues, document and analyse findings.  It will also equip participants to use the RAP findings to document, analyse and report on the actual needs and perceptions of communities. 
 

Course Outline: 

  • Understanding how RAP has developed and how it relates to other participative  research processes
  • Plan a  RAP process including identifying research questions, and selecting appropriate tool and activities
  • Conduct a RAP in a way that is sensitive to cultural context, and gender issues
  • Document a RAP appropriately
  • Analyse the findings of the RAP analysis
  • Prepare an RAP report

·     The above course fees are applicable for participants based within Australia only. All course fees are inclusive of GST and they cover registration, course materials and meals during the course delivery.

·     To qualify for Early Bird registration fees, course fees must be paid to IDSS within the early bird registration deadline (one month before the course date). Beyond that the regular fee will be applicable to all registrations including the existing ones which were not paid within the deadline.

·     Overseas participants will incur an additional fee of AU$40.00 (inclusive of GST) to cover the additional cost of processing overseas payments and registration. Please follow the link for further information relevant to overseas participants.
