International Development Support Services

IDSS is a consultancy, project management, and learning organisation working in international aid and development. We design and implement development projects and provide consultancy services for development agencies.

Privacy Statement

International Development Support Services Pty Ltd

IDSS is committed to protecting your privacy. This statement outlines how IDSS seeks to comply with the Privacy Act 1998 and in particular the National Privacy Principles (NPPs). It explains what we do, what personal information we collect in order to conduct our business, how we keep and use such information and to whom we disclose it.

What we do

IDSS was specifically established in 1983 in order to apply participatory, community development approaches to large bilateral and multilateral projects.
In pursuit of this mission, IDSS:

  • manages social development projects for international aid agencies
  • provides consultancy services to international aid agencies and other organisations involved in international development
  • develops and delivers training courses to tertiary students, practitioners and organisations involved in international development.

In order to perform these functions and activities, IDSS engages in business development that includes general advertising, direct marketing and the preparation and submission of:

  • expressions of interest
  • capability statements and
  • tenders.

What personal information we collect

IDSS collects personal information that is necessary for performing the functions and activities described above.

IDSS collects the following personal information:

  • application forms (electronic and hard copy) for registration on our Consultant Database.
  • usernames and passwords you have created in order to access our Consultant Database.
  • curriculum vitae, expressions of interest for potential or current employment opportunities and associated correspondence.
  • business cards.
  • application forms (electronic and hard copy) for attendance at training courses and/or other professional development activities provided by IDSS.
And
  • when legally required to do so.
  • This personal information is collected:
  • directly from you when you provide information to us by phone or correspondence (email and mail) or submit personal details through our websites.
  • From third parties including your representatives and organisations to whom you have provided your personal details and with whom IDSS is in a legal relationship for the purpose of tendering for and/or managing a project.

How we use and disclose personal information

Personal information that we collect from you is used solely for the purpose for which it was originally collected, ie. in relation to recruitment, project management or attendance at professional development activities.

This information is collected and processed by appropriately trained personnel within the company and is not shared with personnel from other organisations except in such circumstances where it has been agreed in advance with you or in circumstances in which you might reasonably expect us to share that information with another party. Such circumstances most commonly occur when we provide your CV to an organisation with which IDSS is in legal relationship for the specific purpose of tendering for and managing a project.

How we maintain the quality of the personal information we keep

IDSS will take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information which is collected, used and, where appropriate and agreed, disclosed, is accurate and up to date.

As personal and work circumstances alter on a regular basis, we encourage all individuals registered on our on-line Consultant's Database to check and update their records on a regular basis. In addition, we will on an annual basis contact all individuals registered on the Consultants Database and remind them to update their details.

How we protect the personal information we keep

IDSS will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information kept by us is secure. You should be aware that no information transmitted through the internet is 100% secure. To assist us protect your information, you should use a combination of letters and numbers to create the username and password that you provide for accessing our online Consultant Database and you should keep these confidential.

Once we have received your information we will take reasonable steps to ensure that your information is secure. We will take reasonable steps to destroy and de-identify personal information when we no longer need it. Data is processed and maintained by authorised personnel committed to meeting the NPPs.

Identifiers

IDSS will not adopt as its own identifier an indentifier that has been used by a government agency nor will IDSS use or disclose an identifier assigned to an individual by a government agency except where paragraphs (c) to (f) of National Privacy Principle 3 apply.

Anonymity

You have the option of not identifying yourself when dealing with IDSS in relation to a number of areas including making general enquiries. Should you wish to register on the Consultants Database and/or be considered for potential assignments, or wish to be considered as an applicant of a course of the Professional Development Programme, you will need to provide certain personal information to enable us to consider your application appropriately. If you choose not to provide us with your personal information, we may be unable to make contact with you, or lack information that is relevant in making a selection decision in relation to these.

Transborder Data Flows

As one of the principal aspects of our business is the management of projects overseas, a number of our personnel are based outside of Australia. We will therefore, as you would reasonably expect for the execution of our business, share your personal information with selected personnel on our overseas project management teams who have responsibilities in relation to project recruitment and management.

Sensitive Information

IDSS will not collect any sensitive information pertaining to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of political parties, religious beliefs, philosophical beliefs, membership of professional or trade associations, membership of trade unions or sexual preferences, criminal record or health information unless:

  • you have consented; or
  • the collection is required by law; or
  • The collection is necessary to prevent or lessen a serious imminent threat to the life or health of the individual, where the individual whom the information concerns is physically or legally incapable of giving consent to the collection or physically cannot communicate consent to the collection.
